What is geomembrane?
Geomembrane is a modern waterproof geotechnical material and polymeric membrane. The raw material for the production of geomembranes is high and low linear density polyethylene, to which carbon black, an antioxidant and a high temperature stabilizer is added. Geomembranes are produced and supplied in rolls of various sizes. Geomembranes are supplied in rolls with widths from 1 to 12 meters. Depending on specific project requirements, geomembranes are available in thicknesses ranging from 0.2 to 3.0 mm.

Mining Industry
Usage of geomembrane in the mining industry started in the 1970s and has increased thereafter. It is used as a lining solution for evaporation ponds, heap leach pads and tailing impoundments.
The design and construction of these heap leach pads are regulated to protect the environment from exposure to harmful chemicals so a lining system, usually a HDPE geomembrane, forms a critical component in construction of these heap leach facilities.
Geomembranes are also used during the end of a mine’s lifespan. As a part of mine restoration, HDPE liners are used to seal the mine and prevent waste products from contaminating the surrounding environment. Overall, geomembrane lining is a safe and effective solution to protect the environment from harmful industries.
Landfills
To look after our environment, landfills require the strongest protection possible to ensure no waste leakage can contaminate the groundwater beneath them.
There are some ways that geomembranes liners can make landfills more efficient and eco-friendly. They can be applied for lining both primary and secondary solid-waste landfills.
Instead of covering the landfill daily with soil, geomembranes liners can be utilized as alternative daily covers. This is required to preserve odors, vectors, and fires, littering, and scavenging.
Geomembrane liners can as well be used to divert rainwater from landfill pits.
